Thumbs Shell Extension

Windows 2000 and XP users click here!

A wonderful gift from Gwyn Cole, a Thumbs user.

Finding it a little tedious to edit the text files for adding comments to Thumbs images Gwyn created this Windows Shell Extension.

Once you install it, then, from the Windows Explorer if you right click on a jpg file

and pick "properties" from the popup menu that appears

You can then choose the "Thumbs Details" tab and edit the comments for your particular image there.

You can download it from here:

thumbsshellext-1.1.exe (0.3 meg)

Scary Parts:

As I didn't write this I can not promise to support it.  If you do run into problem feel free to tell me about them and I'll see if I can get them fixed.

One you've installed it, if you are installing a new version over and old version, you will first have to RESTART Windows, then Install the new version.  The reason is that once you have used it to edit/view some comments it is now loaded into memory and can not be updated until you restart.

Updates:

1.01:

Fixed so user can press ENTER/RETURN in the comment window.

1.00

first release.

Windows 2000 and XP already provide JPEG EXIF editing built in so YOU DO NOT NEED THIS EXTENSION.

In Windows 2K/XP, right click on any JPEG file and pick Properties, click the Summary tab and you should see something like this

You can edit those fields and Windows 2K/XP will actually insert them inside your JPEG file as EXIF comments.  Thumbs (as well as many other programs) can then read and use those comments
