FlickrDown

Recently a friend started using Flickr which is a great service.  I personally like to save pictures locally and selecting them one at a time to download was too much of a hassle so I whipped up this program so I could download them more easily.

It's free to use and download.

It requires Microsoft .NET 2.0. If you don't already have that installed you can download it here

Download:

You can download the installer by clicking the link below.

flickrdown 2.43

wow! how long did it take u to program?

anyway, great idea!! now if only there was an easy way to get the direct http links to the images so posting multiple photos frm flickr to blogspot was easier... (i'm a flickr <a href=http://www.flickr.com/photos/tr1n1ty/>user)

btw your commenting interface doesn't work well with opera at all :(

Just seeing the name, and having had some trouble recently with Flickr not responding, I first thought it was a program to tell you when Flickr is down (or rather, getting a massage).

Linux? Open source? [ e ]

Hi!
Your tool looks really nice and helpful, but... would it be possible to have a linux version of this? And/or if this isn't possible, are you considering to open the source? Would be really cool!

I'd be happy to send someone the source but I don't really think there is much of a point.  It's a very simple program and the majority of the code is in the interface which is Windows only.  Any script kiddie could whip together a command line version of the same program for linux in a few minutes.

I used the Flickr.Net library which I think they claim will run under Mono in Linux but there are also flickr librares for other languages.

Same idea, different program [ e ]

Hi Greggman, nice to see that somebody else started to develop a Flickr downloader !
I thought I was the only one ;) So I also developed my own, compiled with .NET 1.1 : Flickr Explorer.
A first version 0.1 that already allowed me to download my 1000 photos of last holidays is available at http://sourceforge.net/proje
cts/flickrexplorer/
 .

Good luck !

Thanks a bunch! :D This was exactly what I was hoping to find when searching on google. I was worried I'd have to save every picture one by one ;)

Thank you [ e ]

I suffered a hard disk crash. The only thing that I had not backed up was all my photos, about 500 of them, which are on flickr.

It would have taken me ages to download them all by hand.

I like the way that this creates folds corresponding to the sets.

I foresee this application causing considerable increases in flickr's bandwidth as people attempt to download hundreds of other people's photos.

Oops. I spoke to soon.

This does not seem to be downloading the originals. Or is it? The size is drastically reduced.

I guess I have lost my originals forever.

That may be because

1) Flickr compresses the originals.
2) This program does not download originals.
3) I should have selected the authentication option in "preferences" sine only I can download my originals (but then, I have merged my flickr account with my yahoo account so I wonder if authentication would work)
4) I should allow everyone access to my originals. I am not sure if flickr lets us do this.

I will let it finish and then have another go.

Oops...

Yes, this wonderful program does allow us to download orginals. It is just hat I did not upload originals while I was still a non-pro member of flickr. Those photos have been lost. Sniff. I have them on istockphoto, but I would have to pay to download them.

The best program I found for downloading non-private photos from flickr-sets.

Does anybody know where I cold find a tool with which I can download

- private photos (from "friends" and "family"), because the version 1.3 only downloads the photos withe privacy "public".

- groups

Is this planned for the next version?

Best regards, Adrian

remote name could not be resolved [ e ]

Flickrdown doesn't work for downloading ALL PHOTOS.
When I choose a name (e..g, Agnieszka), downloading doesn't always work... and indeed, often fails with an error message, and then stops.

I get the error message:
'The remote name could not be resolved : 'photos34.flickr.com'

and then downloading stops.

error: photos34.flickr.com [ e ]

I do have the same problem. the problems comes with some sets and groups.

And when I mark "All Photos" and the Sets the Download-Window opens, closes (with no download) and I get "The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found".

(I tested it with Firewall down + .Net Framework 2.0)

Foreign character in group name problem [ e ]

An excellent app!  Thanks!

I'm having problems downloading from the group "Derrières" as FlickDown reports an error "Invalid signature (96)"

Is this because of the foreign accented character è ?

I use for iPod Photo [ e ]

I was searching for an app that could help me synch my flickr photos with my iPod photo, this tool works great!  It does require me to load the app once a week or so and re-download all the photos, but because it gets them all so easily and creates sub-directories for all of my sets it's perfect for then synching with my iPod Photo.

Thanks for creating it!

Wrong Version Compiled? [ e ]

Hello,

I downloaded 2.2 from your site but the version is 2.1 on about box and on executable's properties dialog and it doesn't match the screenshot on your site?

I was hoping you would remove the 100 picture limitation.

But still very useful app
Thanks

posted by AkinFebruary 25, 2006 at 18:02

doh! Well, it's still the most recent version.

As for removing the 100 picture limit. It's on my list but it's not trival. If I just remove the limit period then if you picked "flowers" for a tag you'd be there for hours while it downloaded the thumbnails for 100,000 images.  So, because it's not trival, not hard but not trival, I haven't been able to find the time to add the stuff to support that yet.

Thumbnails and link problems [ e ]

Is anyone else having thumbnail problems and incorrect photo links?  I see that it was fixed in 2.20, but everytime I download I get v2.10 and the problems are still there.

Otherwise, I love this program!  Thanks!

Hmm, the 100 photo limit is a real problem. That means you can only download the first 100 images of any album, not exactly useful if there are more than 100 photos in the account?

posted by DixMarch 10, 2006 at 20:10

100 photo limit [ e ]

As for the 100 photo limit, I understand why it's in place, but it would be nice if there was an option to start from photo number 101, 201, 301, etc. That way you could download them in steps and get all your photos.

Can I set flickrdown to download original sized photos.  It seems to default to downloading the mid-size only.

posted by jeffJuly 6, 2006 at 23:16

Original vs Midsize [ e ]

flickrdown only downloads original sizes or rather it asks flickr.com for the original size. If flickr.com is returning mid-size images that most like means one of the following

  • who ever posted the images didn't tell the uploading software to upload original sizes. For example the Windows XP Flickr Uploadr defaults to rescaling the images smaller and not uploading the original sizes. You have to go into the options and tell it NOT to do that.
  • the images are set to make the originals only available to friends or family. You can go to Your Account page and set which groups can download the originals images. In that case theoretically flickr.com would supply the midsize sized image even if flickdown requested the original. Unless you logged into flickr from flickrdown and had permission for those particular images.

I hope that helps

FlickrDown trouble [ e ]

I downloaded the net 2.0 after deinstalling older version, installer FlickrDown, did the authorization.

When I try to download, this is what comes up:

<INPUT id=postset4_0 onclick=sendcheck() type=checkbox CHECKED> [*All_Photos*] All public photos including those not in a photo set

When I click the download button, the program says "no photos selected

When I try to open All_photos all public photos... nothing happens

Can anyone out there help me?

Hopefully, Janecke
