It seems like every few days some company is trying to create the next big Japanese cute character, trying to be the next Hello Kitty. The latest attempt is Piyodamari. If seen it around but only recently has it started it hit the big time.

They have some cute animations and pictures and I'd give you links but unfortunately their entire site is in Flash so it's kind of hard.
